Does Anyone Else Love Bruno Mars As Much As I Do?

So near the top of my list for "The Qualities of Hayley's Perfect Husband" (Yes, I've made a list. Don't judge.) is the ability to sing really well and oh, this dude definitely has that. His voice is amazing. Actually, it's BEYOND that.  I've honestly never heard anything like it and his song lyrics are something else. His single, Just the Way You Are, makes every female wish it was about them.  Altogether, Bruno Mars is just a great artist. His sound is something that is definitely needed in music these days.

I've had this song on replay all day:

Local Doll Brittany: A REAL Doll.

I just adore people that are able to stand out in a crowd. Since my school is home to about 3,000 students, it is a pretty hard task to do.  Somehow, this girl is able to do it.  Of course when I met her, she had some help. My crazy, loud (I mean that in the nicest way possible) friend Ranier, who is also a Doll Rebellion staff member, introduced us and I immediately loved her. Her name is Brittany Saunders.  She is sixteen, a junior in High School and yes boys, she is very SINGLE.  She loves to laugh and is probably one of the funniest people you will ever come across. Very outgoing and Oh, did I mention this girl's style is ON POINT?! No matter what she's wearing, whether it is sweatpants or a skirt, she works it and makes it look like a million bucks.  This is the reason, I had to interview her. Thankfully, she gladly accepted.  So, we all met up in our school's yearbook room.  We laughed and talked a bit but it was soon time to get down to business.

Hayley: "Describe your style."

Brittany: "Hard to say. I like all styles. I can't just place my style in one category. I would have to base it  by outfit."

Ranier: "You're like a chameleon."
Brittany: "Exactly. I can't describe it. I can go from skater to Forever 21, just like that."

Ranier: "Do you ever look at magazines to get ideas about what to wear?"
Brittany: "Yes, I look through Seventeen and Cosmopolitan. I also go online. Like I'll go to Forever 21's website and look by outfit for ideas. I look at other people too. There are people that dress really nice and I let them know. And if I can make what they wear me, then I'll try that too."

Hayley: "Is there anyone or anything that inspires your style or that you look up to because of the way they dress?"
Brittany: "Amber Rose. Point Blank Period. That girl can dress! If I could pull the fade off, I would do that too."

Hayley: "Do you show your personality through your outfit choices?"
Brittany: "No, the way I dress is mix-matched with my personality. I dress sassy but I'm really nice. If I dressed like my personality, I'd wear sweatpants everyday."

Ranier: "Do you think it's necessary to accessorize with every outfit?"
Brittany: "Yes, to some extent. Some outfits need accessories. Depends on what it is.  You don't want to overdo it though."

Ranier: "Some people look to music videos for fashion. Do you?"
Brittany: "Most music video girls dress too openly. I'm not into that. I'm more into New York fashion models."

Ranier: "Would you want to pursue a career in fashion?"
Brittany: "No, I want to be an auditor. I mean, if I was to have a fashion career, I'd want to be a designer but i can't draw. I would even like to be a magazine editor but there's too much competition. It's too catty."

Hayley: "When it comes to the way you dress, do you care what people think?"
Brittany: "Not really but I appreciate it when people say I look nice. I don't dress to make people happy. I would care what my boyfriend thought, if I had one but other than that, no. I dress for me. I'm happy in sweats and I'm happy dressed up. I like that I can go back and forth. I think people get caught up in the glam and get lost in it."

Hayley: "Where were you born?"
Brittany: "Irvington, NJ then I moved to Queens, NY then I moved to Bethlehem in fourth grade."

Hayley: "Do you notice the differences in styles in these places?"
Brittany: "I definitely see a difference. New York is more diverse. They wear more name brands. Out here, they have the same style. You know? They all wear Hollister or whatever. It's great if you wanna belong to something."

Ranier: "Do you think your style has changed during your time in High School?"
Brittany: "I love this question! Yes. In ninth grade, I didn't care. I would wear colored skinnies. You know? Stuff like that. In tenth grade, I still didn't care. I didn't start dressing nice until the second semester of tenth grade so this change is really recent.  I was just sitting in my room and I said to myself "Brittany, you could do better than this." At that point, I wasn't even doing anything to my hair. It was buns everyday. It was time for a change and I just decided to start doing me. So, I'll say I definitely changed. I'm still changing. I wonder what I'll be like next year."

Hayley: "What was your biggest fashion mistake?"
Brittany: "I used to wear these jeans, these sloppy boots and this black vest with this colorful scarf. Wait, I have a picture!"
*whips out her 10th grade ID with a picture of her wearing the outfit. we all laugh for a bit.

Hayley: "So, you said you're single before. What's the ideal look for a guy you may be interested in?"
Brittany: "I'm not gonna pick out brandnames or anything because you could wear anything as long as you could rock it. I mean your sneakers can't be COOKED. I like swag. I mean I like both the thug swag and the classy swag. I like the skater look on guys. I like Hollister. As long as you wear it with swag, it's okay."

Ranier: "When it comes to guys' jeans, how tight is too tight?"
Brittany: "I can NOT see the shape of your booty. If your walking and I can see the outline of your hips and curves, that's a no no.

Ranier: "Define swag."
Brittany: "Confidence. The way you walk is like 'Yeah, I got this.' Smooth personality. Walk with authority. I mean people think I'm stuck up because I don't give boys the time of day but it's because honestly, I haven't found someone like this. I can look at a guy and hear him speak five words and I can tell how it's gonna go. I mean, I'm not gonna waste yours and my time."

Ranier: "Where is the line drawn between being fashionable and being overly provocative?"
Brittany: "If you have to walk up the stairs and hold your skirt down, it's too short honey. If you have to keep pulling your shirt up, it's too low honey. If you're a big girl and you're wearing a size small, it's too tight honey. Step up your size boo. Wear your size! The make clothes to fit our bodies and it will look much better than squishing into a size small. Don't be insecure. Be who you are!"

As you can see, this girl is a doll. And when it comes to fashion, she knows what she's talking about. Do you love her yet? Because we sure do!

All Grown Up!

The Los Angeles "Easy A" premiere brought out a bunch of familiar faces, such as Alyson and Amanda Michalka, also known as, Aly and AJ. Aside from their music career, you may remember Aly (left) from Disney Channel's Phil of the Future and AJ (right) from a few Disney Channel movies. These girls have definitely grown into beautiful young women.  They have both developed their own looks.  As for Aly, the short hair really works for her. It gives her a nice mature look. Both girls look great!

Also in attendance was Nickelodeon star, Keke Palmer, who looked absolutely stunning:

Remember this?!

I'm sure everyone remembers this. Two of my favorite things in one video, the color pink and Beyonce.

Nicki Minaj Takes A Trip To The "Normal" Side.

Our darling doll, Nicki Minaj, has graced the cover of Complex's October/November issue and I am proud to say she has toned it down. As much as we all love Nicki's random "personalities" (even though some of us may deny even liking her at all), I definitely believe it was time for her to put away the hot pink eyeshadow and talk in a normal voice for a bit.  It was a nice surprise to see her do a cover without looking surprised or looking as if she was having a convulsion.  Instead, here she looks graceful and beautiful.  Her interview is also quite interesting. She speaks on Drake writing Alicia Keys' "Unthinkable" about her, being celibate, and drama. Definitely some things that will make you go hmm... The Complex October/November 2010 issue officially hits stands on October 5th.

Doll Of The Day; Sixty Eight & Still Rocking Stilettos

Gosh, where do I even start with this marvelous woman?! Well, I guess I'll start with I hope I'm as cool as her when I'm 68. Oh, and by the way, if you didn't know, this is Betsey Johnson a.k.a. my hero. I happen to believe this is the most fashionable woman to ever strap on a pair of stilettos. She is also the posterchild for originality. She lets everyone see her personality through her clothing choices and designs.  She doesn't care what anyone says or thinks about her and that is exactly what I love. She's unlike anyone else, which makes her so amazing. I absolutely adore her, if you haven't noticed. This most likely won't be the last time you'll hear me talking about her, being that she is also my favorite fashion designer.  Betsey Johnson is absolutely stunning and most of all, she is a doll.

I Believe It's Time For A DOLL Takeover.

rebellion
n
1.organized resistance or opposition to a government or other authority
2.dissent from an accepted moral code or convention of behavior, dress, etc.

I am a HUGE fan of the second definition. I think many people are stuck following this unwritten rule book that states how they should act, dress, speak, etc. Thankfully, I'm able to stand up and say "Not I." Hopefully, many of you do the same. But before I get too deep into that, let's talk basics. First things first, my name is Hayley. I am seventeen years old and a senior in high school. I have an extreme passion for writing. I am an aspiring journalist and I am proud to say I am completely in love with fashion. I also have an odd obsession with cupcakes. Oh, and of course I'm a doll! No, that does not mean I am plastic nor that I'm fake. I'm actually far from both of those. I have actually created my own definition of a doll.  I believe a doll is someone that stands for something. Someone that makes a statement. Someone who accepts their flaws and becomes perfectly imperfect. Someone who refuses to conform! Which brings me back to what I was saying before, no one should feel the need to have to fit into someone else's idea of style, attitude, or whatever it is. We are individuals. So, there is absolutely no need for us all to be put into one group of rules or regulations. This is what this blog is all about. Individuality. I live for it. I search for people that define the word. They can show it through music, fashion, or pretty much anything. Strong, determined people that make a statement is what defines this blog. I want people to read the articles and not say "Oh, I wanna be like them" but instead say "Oh, I wanna be myself." As you can see, I'm very passionate about this, which is my reasoning behind starting this blog. This page will now serve as a holding place until my official site is up and ready. I'll be posting here everyday until my site is done. In the meantime, I will be reporting on some of your favorite celebrities and hopefully some amazing locals that you may even know.  If you are interested in being involved in the site in anyway, whether it is you wanna be interviewed or you even want to promote, feel free to contact me at thedollrebellion@gmail.com. I am also open to any ideas anyone may have. I'm excited to begin this journey with you. So, let's get together and promote originality. Let's encourage everyone to be their own person and love every second of it. Lets start a rebellion!

Stay blessed & beautiful dolls,
Hayley Catalina.
